昔むかし、京きょうの三さん条じょうにある薬屋くすりやが、家いえを建たて直なおすにあたって随分ずいぶん大おおきい鬼瓦おにがわらを据すえました

A long time ago, a pharmacist in Sanjo, Kyoto installed a very large Oni tile when rebuilding the house.

この鬼瓦おにがわらの顔かおは、大江山おおえやまの鬼おにも顔負かおまけする程ほどの恐おそろしさでした

この薬屋くすりやの向むかいには、美人びじんで気きの優やさしい嫁よめさんがいましたが、鬼瓦おにがわらの悪夢あくむを見みるようになりました

Across the pharmacy, there was a beautiful and kind wife, but she started having nightmares about Onigawara.

毎晩まいばん続つづく悪夢あくむが原因げんいんで、嫁よめさんはとうとう病気びょうきになってしまいました

My wife has finally become ill due to a nightmare that continues every night.

そこで、旦那だんなが鬼瓦おにがわらを降おろしてもらうようにお願ねがいしましたが、薬屋くすりやの主人しゅじんは取とり合あいません

So my husband asked me to remove the Onigawara, but the pharmacist didn't take it.

この話はなしを聞きいたお医者いしゃさんが、鬼おにを退治たいじしてくれる鍾馗しょうき（しょうき）さんを大おおきな瓦かわらで作つくらせて、鬼瓦おにがわらの向むかいに据すえました

After hearing this story, the doctor made Shoki, who would defeat the demons, made of large tiles and placed them across from the Oni tiles.

しかし、どうしたわけか嫁よめさんの悪夢あくむは続つづき、一向いっこうに具合ぐあいは良よくなりませんでした

However, for some reason, my wife's nightmare continued, and she was not feeling well at all.

そこでお医者いしゃさんが嫁よめさんの悪夢あくむの中なかに入はいってみると、そこには酒盛さかもりに夢中むちゅうになって鬼おに退治たいじをさぼっている鍾馗しょうきさんがいました

The doctor then entered his wife's nightmare and found Shoki, who was obsessed with drinking and slacking off demons.

お医者いしゃさんからせかされた鍾馗しょうきさんが睨にらみをきかせるようになると、鬼おにも暴あばれなくなって、ようやく嫁よめさんの具合ぐあいは良よくなりました

Once Shoki, who was sought by the doctor, started glaring at me, the demons stopped going wild, and finally my wife was feeling better.

こんな事ことがあってから、京都きょうとでは鬼瓦おにがわらのある向むかいの家いえでは鍾馗しょうきさんを置おくようになったそうです

After this happened, it seems that in Kyoto, Shoki began to be placed in the house across from the Oni tile.
