4回目の接種は、5月から重症化リスクの高い人などで始まりました。
接種の間隔は、当初、3回目から「6カ月」の想定でしたが、「5カ月」に短縮されました。
平田晃正教授はAIを使い、接種間隔の違いが第7波の東京都の死者数にどのように影響したかを試算しました。
間隔が「6カ月」だと9月末までに1940人の死者が出ていたとしています。
実際には1409人で、「5カ月」に短縮することで、高齢者を中心に3割近く死者数を抑えることができたということです。
「東京だけでそれくらいですので、全国でいうと10倍くらいの可能性。救えた命も多かったのではないかと考える」
現在、接種間隔は3カ月に短縮されています。
平田教授は「第8波」に向けて新しい変異株も確認されていることから、重症化リスクを抱える人で前回の接種から期間が空いた人は、早めの接種を検討してほしいとしています。
