最大都市コロンボでは9日、ラジャパクサ大統領の退陣を求めるデモが行われ、数千人規模のデモ隊が大統領公邸になだれ込み公邸を占拠しました。

ラジャパクサ大統領は、前日に公邸から避難していて無事でしたが、病院関係者によりますと、デモ隊と警官隊の衝突で少なくとも55人がけがをしたということです。

これに先立ち、5月に就任したばかりのウィクラマシンハ首相も辞任の意向を表明しています。
